My psychology practice is diverse and I see people for many reasons including issues of anxiety, depression and adjustment to life events or stresses.
I have more specialized training in the psychological aspects of health and disability or understanding how disabilities or chronic health problems can impact one's job or school performance. I provide consultation for vocational rehabilitation professionals and offer training in communication skills and other topics.
I also have a special interest in performance and sport psychology. I provide psychology services for athletes who may be coping with injuries and the rehabilitation process, having performance anxiety or leaving sport. I have worked with athletes of all levels and various sports, including endurance training and competitions, basketball, hockey, golf and tennis.
Of special interest to me is teaching my clients, including athletes, to use mental skills to help with their performance or simply to improve one's quality of life. These skills might include concentration and meditation training, goal setting, self talk or how to "coach" oneself through times of anxiety or depression.
I generally work with adults, including college and university students; there are times I will see teens who are having sport or grief issues.
My psychology training and my personal background give me an understanding of the stigma often associated with disability and the frustrations that might accompany health issues. Additionally, my athletic background includes competing as a runner in high school and college. I competed for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Track and Field Team, setting records in the 60m, 100m, and 4 x 100m relay. I competed at both the national and international levels. At present, I run for fun and enjoy a shorter road race.
In addition to being a practicing psychologist, I also teach part time at the University of Wisconsin--Madison in the Rehabilitation Psychology Department. I feel very lucky to be able to teach and practice in the area of psychology.
I believe in a mind-body connection and have training in hypnosis, relaxation and visualization.
